William “Bill” F. Paul

May 4, 1940 - December 2, 2014

William “Bill” Frederick Paul was born May 4, 1940, at home in rural Black Hawk County to Harold and Viola (Bock) Paul. He grew up south of Denver, Iowa and graduated from Denver High School in 1958. Bill met Sharon Miller on a blind date and the couple married on December 7, 1958, making their home in Janesville.

He was a machinist retiring with over 30 years at John Deere and he also served as a volunteer fireman in Janesville for 25 years. Bill and Sharon bowled together until the Janesville bowling alley closed. He was known for his winemaking, canning and fishing and was the camp cook for his son’s hunting group. Bill, known to many as “Uncle Willy”, loved spending time with his family and friends as well as woodworking in his shop.

Bill passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at the age of 74 at the Waverly Health Center. He is survived by Sharon, his wife of nearly 56 years; a son, Michael (Denise) Paul of Janesville; a daughter, Michele Paul of Colorado Springs, CO; two sisters, Donna (Ervin) Wittenburg of Arizona City, AZ, and Diane (Joel) Wikner of Denver, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Bill will be dearly missed.
