Ora DeLee Carter was born in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, on May 1, 1932, daughter of Stanley and Velma (Clark) Clayton. While in her early teenage years, her family moved to Waterloo, Iowa. She met Wallace Dove and the couple had three children together. They later divorced and she married Donald E. Carter on November 17, 1966. They were married until Donald’s death in 1995. Through the years Ora worked in a variety of clerical and sales associate positions.
At the age of 62, she went back to school and received her GED of which she was very proud. Ora dearly loved her children and grandchildren. She also had a lifelong love of dogs, adopting many from the humane society through the years. She was a longtime member of Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church and was a member of a women’s circle and treasured the many friendships that grew from this group.
Ora passed away at the Elizabeth E. Martin Center in Cedar Falls on Saturday, December 6, 2014, from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease at the age of 82 surrounded by many family members.
She is survived by her two daughters, Connie Salisbury of South Carolina and Judy (Kevin) Kerr of Waterloo; a son, Don (Lori) Dove of Cedar Falls; a sister Donna (George) Laurie of Cedar Falls; a sister-in-law Winnifred Clayton of Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren: Emily Kerr, Erin (Tommy) Kerr-Hughes, Meghan (Darin) Rogers, Jason Dove, Jenny (Mark) Snyder, Maggie (Brian) Hume, Bryan (Erin) Stratton, Lora (Rick) Retterath, and Susan Stratton; and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Don Carter; her brother; and many beloved canine friends. Ora will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
