Donald Charles Merrick

February 24, 1956 - September 10, 2015

Donald Charles Merrick was born February 24, 1956 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Charles and Gladys (White) Merrick. He graduated from Waterloo East High School. As soon as he turned 18, Donald enlisted with the United States marines Corps and went active duty during the Vietnam War. He was awarded with the National Defense Service Medal, M-16 Rifle Sharp Shooter Badge and .45 Sharp Shooter.

After being honorably discharged, Donald worked in maintenance at the University of Northern Iowa. He moved to West Virginia and worked in cleaning and maintenance at various lawyers offices. In 2014, Donald moved back to Waterloo to be closer to his family. He enjoyed bass fishing and watching eagles at the Mississippi River. Donald loved the Lord and had a strong faith.

Donald passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at ManorCare, at the age of 59.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Tim and a sister Mona Bebout.

Donald is survived by two sons, Matt Merrick of Waterloo and Adam Merrick of Mt. Pleasant; four grandchildren: Kaylee, Olivia, Elijah and Noah; two brothers, Paul Merrick of Waterloo and Mike (Betsy) Merrick of West Virginia; and a sister Cathy Pecenka of Waterloo. Donald will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
