Dolores J. Simmons (1919-2015)

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Dolores J. Simmons, 95, of Cedar Falls died Monday, April 20, 2015 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

She was born July 24, 1919 in Ossian, Iowa, daughter of Theodore John and Mary Ann (VonDerSitt) Uhlenhake. She married Orlando G. Solem and he preceded her in death in 1938. She married John A. Simmons in 1944 and he preceded in death 2000.

She retired from Chamberlain Corp. in Waterloo. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls and the Legion of Mary.

Survived by: a daughter, Janice (Gus) Spears Pflugmacher of Springfield, IL; a son, Lawrence F. Simmons of Onalaska, TX; ten grandchildren: Anne (Scott) Sergeant, Connie (Scott) Smith, Craig (Mary Kay) Schaefer, Karie (Mike) Lahey, Mike Spears, Kathy Spears, Jon Frasher, Ken Simmons, Lara Simmons, Judy Kartous; great grandchildren: Brooke (Rich) Prestegard, Jared and Byron Sergeant, Danielle (Dustin) Thorson, Josh (Clare) Smith, Blake, Megan and Melissa Schmit, Patrick, Kendra and Emily Nelson, Tiffany (Ron) HurleyMichael Simmons, Steven Buss, Sarah Kartous, and Lilly Simmons; great-great grandchildren: Hayden and Hudson Prestegard, Philip Lahey, Ian and Alexis Schmitt, Spring Smith, Grace Thompson, Camille and Maddox Thorson, Hailey and Clarissa Smith; and two sisters, LouEllen Chase and Marilyn Fuggiti.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley A. Schaefer; a grandson, Mark Joseph Schaefer; a great-grandson, Matthew Smith; brothers: Mourant, Clarence and Merlin Uhlenhake; sisters: Mary Uhlenhake, Lucille White, Verla Adams and Alice Frana.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with visitation for one hour before the service. Burial will be at a later date in St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery in Decorah.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Patrick Catholic Church or a food pantry of your choice.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Susan Swift and Northcrest Specialty Care for their care and many kindnesses.
