Sylvia M. Hurley (1913-2015)

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Sylvia Hurley, 102, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, August 13, 2015, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab in Waterloo.

She was born July 22, 1913 in Dinsdale, Iowa, daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Kloss) Petra. She married Edward Hurley in Chicago, Illinois. He died in 1973.

She worked at Readers Digest in New York and was then a Dental Assistant for 23 years in Waterloo.

She is survived by one son, Edward (Elizabeth) Hurley of Point Arena, Calif.; a granddaughter, Emma; and nieces and nephews, including Rudy (Lonna) Petra of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosie Luther and Elsie Guyer; and by six brothers: Milo, John, Vincent, Rudy, Joseph and Leonard Petra.

There will be no visitation or services. Her body has been donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine Deeded Body program.

Inurnment will be at a later date in Garden of Memories in Waterloo. Richardson Funeral Service is assisting the family.
