Harry Robert Ernster

August 11, 1929 - December 21, 2014

Harry Robert Ernster, 85, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Sunday, December 21, at Covenant Medical Center, in Waterloo.

He was born August 11, 1929, in Tulare, South Dakota, the son of Charles and Mabel Glidden Ernster. He married Veda Peres on September 7, 1949, in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.

Harry served in the United States Naval Air Force during World War II. He was the owner and operator of Takin Rug and Upholstery.

Survivors include: his wife, Veda of Waterloo; two sons, Stan (Diane) Ernster of Hudson and Dennis (Diane) Ernster of Brandon; a daughter, Sharon Willmore of Ankeny; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond Ernster of S.D.; two sisters, Helen Thomas of S.C. and Jean Harlan of S.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: a great-grandson, Reese Shelton; three brothers, Lyle, Lloyd, and Dale Ernster; two sisters, Geraldine Deviney and Genevieve Wyatt.

Services: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 27, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31. Public visitation from 4-8 P.M. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street where there will be a 4 P.M. Legion of Mary Rosary and 7 P.M. vigil service. Visitation also one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the church or St. Vincent DePaul.
