Biography--

Shirley Ilene Hamilton, 83 of Washburn, died Thursday, March 5 at La Porte City Nursing & Rehab Center.

She was born November, 22, 1931 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Ernie and Minnie Hartman Wenger. She married Virgil Hamilton in 1949 and later divorced.

Shirley graduated from East High School and was a mother and homemaker. In later years, she worked as a dietary aide at Schoitz Hospital.

She is survived by three sons: Craig (Nancy) of Fort Dodge, James (Patricia) of Billings, Missouri, and David (Rozi) of Waterloo; a daughter, Mary (Gordon) Miller of Marshalltown; nine grandchildren: Claudia Johnston, Emily Hamilton, Andrea DeJong, Matthew Hamilton, Sarah Lobdell, Aaron Miller, Andrew Miller, Adam Miller and Leah Hamilton; and by 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Wenger; and by two sisters, Darlene Manross and Eva Blackford.

Services: Monday, March 9 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Washburn, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Public visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty – Waychoff – Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and continue for one hour before services at the church on Monday.

Shirley’s loves in her life were Jesus, Redeemer Lutheran Church and her family.
