Vincent E. Sherwood, 87, of Raymond, Iowa, died Saturday, June 6, at NorthCrest Specialty Care, Waterloo, Iowa.
He was born February 16, 1928 in Black Hawk County, Iowa, the son of Carl and Alice Jacobson Sherwood. He married Violet Dawson in June, 1947. They later divorced. He married April Schiess Thome on August 9, 1989.
Vince was employed with Waterloo Industries, John Deere and retired from Cedar Metal Works. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Vicksberg and the USS Fred T. Berry.
Survivors include: his wife; five daughters, Nancy Brooks and Linda Luck, both of Parkersburg, Jennifer (Jolan) Cockrell and Therese (Rick) Buffington, both of Cedar Falls, Jean Foss of Evansdale and Joan (Bryan) Jolly of Waterloo; a son, Irv (Vickie) Thome of Raymond; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; five brothers: Jim (Shirley) Sherwood of Cedar Falls, Bill (Darlene) Sherwood of LaPorte City, Gary (Joann) Sherwood, Tim (Linda) Sherwood and Steve Sherwood, all of Waterloo; two sisters, Vickie Sherwood and Sally Hermanson, both of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons-in-law: Eddie Derifield, David Luck and Lane Brooks; a brother, Bob Sherwood; and a sister, Mary Jebe.
Public visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street. Inurnment will be at a later date.
