Gloria "Faye" Shafer

July 20, 1928 - September 20, 2015

Gloria "Faye" Shafer, 87, of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 20, 2015, at NorthCrest Specialty Care of natural causes.

Faye was born July 20, 1928 in Waterloo, daughter of Thomas and Mayme Sager Swyers. She married Mason Shafer November 3, 1964. He preceded her in death on December 19, 1990.

Faye graduated from the school for the Blind and Deaf in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was a long time member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

She was an honorary member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, which she was named Woman of the Year in 2007. She was an honorary member of the Amvets Post 19 and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was an avid bowler and served the public for 40 years at the Cattle Congress Noodle Nook.

Faye’s passion was caring for her family and always helping others. She was also an excellent baker.

Survivors include: a daughter, Cathy (Rodney) Timberlake of Waterloo; two sons, Gary (Dee) Lane of Polk City and Mark Lane of Waterloo; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Faye was preceded in death by seven brothers; and six sisters.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street and at the church for an hour before services on Wednesday.

Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or the Amvets.
