Biography--

Joseph F. Heiple, 70, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 22, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born August 3, 1945, in Waterloo, the son of John James and Carmelita Schuetz Heiple. He married Rita Downs on December 30, 1967, in Waterloo and she died April 25, 1986. He married Susan Vesely on October 20, 1990, in Waterloo.

Joe served in the United States Army as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He taught social studies at Hudson Jr. High, where he also coached baseball, retiring in 2002.

Survivors include: his wife, Susan of Waterloo; a son, Gregory Heiple of Waterloo; two daughters, Cristina Johnson and Emily Rangel both of Waterloo; four grandchildren; three brothers, Jim (Marie) Heiple of Philadelphia, Pa, Ken (Diane) Heiple of Independence, and Steve (Lisa) Heiple of Waterloo; two step-sons, Brian (Erin) Van Fleet of Birmingham, Ala, and Andy (Holly) Van Fleet of Waterloo; a step-daughter, Samantha Van Fleet of Renwick, and six step-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: his parents; a daughter, Catherine Heiple.

Services: 9:30 A.M. Saturday, September 26, at St. Edward Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31, assisted by the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation from 5-8 P.M. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street where there will be a 7 P.M. vigil service. Visitation also one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
