Dorothy Jean Moore, 87, of Waterloo, Iowa, died October 8, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born November 21, 1927, in Elma, Iowa, to Wilfred and Teresa Madden Keefe. She married Eugene "Dinty" Moore on April 26, 1949 in Waterloo. Eugene passed May 6, 2011.

Dorothy was the second of nine children. They moved to Waterloo when she was a teenager where she attended and graduated from Sacred Heart School. After high school Dorothy worked at the Phone company until she married Eugene and started her family.

Dorothy built her life around family. Married for 61 years. With seven children, 20 grand children, 30 great grand children with two more on the way and 2 great great grandchildren. She was always a pillar of strength for her siblings, children and friends and will be best remembered for her quiet leadership, compassion and love that was felt by all who knew her. A greeting from Mom always included a big smile and a twinkle in her eye.

After raising her family she reentered the work force at Sears and later retired from there. Retirement years were spent enjoying life with summers at their place on Lake Kabetogama, MN. with family and friends. Always embracing her Irish heritage, Dorothy enjoyed celebrations of St Patrick's Day, Irish Fest and a special trip to Ireland.

Dorothy was a life time member of Sacred Heart church and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Survivors include: four sons, Tom (Sharron Freeman) of Nashville, N.C., Dennis of Fairbank, Chuck (Barb) of Denver, and Paul (Sabrina) of Solon; three daughters, Cindy (Jerry) Ersland of Waterloo, Dorene Moore of Elk Run Heights, and Sondra (Rod) Boehmer of Waterloo; two sisters, Rita Mayer of Waterloo and Shirley (Jim) McGarvey of Eagle Center.

Preceded in death by: three brothers, Robert Keefe in infancy, Joe Keefe and Jim Keefe; three sisters, Marie Brummel, Colleen Contrell, and Georgia Carlson; a grandson, Cayd Sapp; a granddaughter, Christy Tovar.

Services: 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 13, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4-8 P.M. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street where there will be a 4 P.M Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary and 7 P.M. vigil service. Visitation also one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the family for a fund to be established at a later date.

Special thank you to all of the caregivers at Cedar Valley Hospice for the great care and compassion at the end of her life.
