Dwayne R. Swanger, 67, of Waterloo, died Saturday, October 10 at home from a heart attack.

He was born March 13, 1948, in Sioux City, the son of Russell and Gertrude Rohmiller Swanger. He married Robin VanLengen on April 12, 1975 and they later divorced. He married Angela Weber on October 7, 2000, in Washburn.

Dwayne served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and also the Army Reserve for fourteen years. He was employed with John Deere, retiring in 1998. He was also employed with Rochester Armor as a security guard, retiring in 2014. Dwayne was a lifetime member of the Evansdale Amvets Post 31.

Survivors include: his wife, Angela of Waterloo; a daughter, Chassidy (Keith) Bumgardner of Elk Run Heights; three grandchildren, William, Alex, and Gabi; three brothers, Doug (Sandy) of LeMars, Denny (Kereen) of Moville, and Dean (JoDee) of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Theresa Swanger of Sioux City.

Preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, David and Don Swanger; two sisters, Donna in infancy and Diane Brown.

Services: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 14, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31 assisted by the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation from 4-8 P.M. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street where there will be a 6:30 P.M. time of sharing. Visitation will also be one hour prior to services at the church.
