Eunice C. Roberts
Died: Nov. 19, 2014

Biography--

Eunice C. Roberts, 89, of La Porte City and formerly of Washburn, Iowa, died at La Porte City Nursing & Rehab Center on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, of natural causes.

Eunice Carol Barnhart was born January 6, 1925 in Greene, Iowa, daughter of Luther and Lillian Hardy Barnhart. She graduated from Fredericka High School in 1942.

She married William "Bill" D. Roberts on June 12, 1948 in Nashua. He died on May 13, 2011.

She had worked part-time in the credit department of both JC Penney’s and Sears in the Crossroads Mall, but enjoyed being a homemaker for most of her life.

Eunice was a charter member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Washburn, served as an Elder and Deaconess at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waterloo; member of United Presbyterian Women; and was active in choir.

She is survived by her daughter, Sue Roberts of Washburn; son, Doug Roberts of Waterloo; daughter, Cheryl (Don Schmidt) Baldwin of Eudora, Kansas; daughter, Marijo (Steve) Raecker of Waterloo; daughter-in-law, Diane Roberts of Hudson, Iowa; three grandchildren: Dana (Sharon) Roberts of Waterloo, Jake Raecker of Waterloo, and Dixie Roberts of New York City, New York; a great-grandson, Jack Roberts; and four brothers: Glen (Helen) Barnhart of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, Paul (Martha) Barnhart of Joplin, Missouri, Blayne Barnhart of Walla Walla, Washington, and Earl (Donna Myers) Barnhart of La Porte City; and her sister-in-law, Janet Barnhart of Greene.

Eunice was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Dennis B. Roberts; and brother, Dwight Barnhart.

Eunice was a devoted, wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She commanded her kitchen, excelling in the now lost art of canning beautiful fruits and vegetables, and making pies that were the feature of all holiday meals. A family cookbook, The Calico Crumb, was published in her honor to prominently feature all her favorite recipes along with bits of baking wisdom.

She was a gifted seamstress, making clothing for all her children, along with Halloween costumes and one of a kind ensembles for her grandkids. She was a lover of animals and music, two things that brightened her life and the lives of those she shared them with.
