Biography--

Ronald Amfahr, 78, of Waterloo, died Friday, December 26, 2014 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home. Ron was born May 7, 1936 in Jesup, Iowa the son of Conrad and Margaret Schuler Amfahr. He graduated from Jesup High School in 1954.

Ron married Bev Lawrence on June 11, 1957 at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup.

He worked for Continental Baking Company from 1954 to 1965. He then went to work for John Deere becoming a supervisor in 1972 and retired in February of 1993. He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church.

Ron was an avid Hawkeye fan. He was a bit of a jokester, but beneath his tough exterior was a soft heart. He adored his wife and was a family man. Ron has a very strong faith. He was a hard worker and enjoyed building birdhouses and furniture from reclaimed wood in retirement. He liked spending time in his yard and liked to walk, especially on the sand in Texas.

Ron is survived by his wife Bev of Waterloo, three daughters: Kandi (Jeff) Nissen of Waterloo, Rhonda (Tom) Sheets of Independence, and Nancy (Jim) O'Connor of Story City; four grandchildren: Jessie (Joey), Kylie (fiancé Andrew), Ryan (Kristen), and Justin (Angie); four step grandchildren: Jeff (Carol), Stephanie (Ed), Carrie (Mark), and Angela; four great-grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Jane (Ron) Barnett of Jesup and a brother Donald (Sandy) Amfahr of Florida.

Ron is preceded in death by a brother Alfred and sister Eileen Fisher

Funeral Mass Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at St. Edward Catholic Church, 1423 Kimball Ave. in Waterloo

Visitation:
Monday, December 29, 2014 at Locke Funeral Home with a Vigil service at 7:00.

Cemetery:
Mount Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo

Memorials:
St. Edward Catholic Church or Cedar Valley Hospice
