Edward Alan Bucy, 59, of Hudson, died Tuesday, March 10, at home. He was born April 13, 1955 in Kellogg, Idaho, and was adopted by Joseph and Shirley Bucy at age six, near Indianapolis. He married Mary Schlicht in the fall of 1975, after falling in love at church camp in 1973.
Ed graduated from Decatur Central High School in Indianapolis, and attended the University of Evansville and Upper Iowa University where he was a brother of the Beta Theta Phi Fraternity. Ed was previously employed by Wittenburg Trucking Company in Readlyn and he was most recently employed by Utility Equipment Company in Waterloo.
Ed cherished his roles as a husband, dad, and grandpa. His love for Mary was only rivaled by his love for his children and grandchildren. He was humble and hard-working and loyal to those he loved. Ed treated his fraternity as family and valued the friendships he formed with his brotherhood. He was a long-time attendee at the Community Church of Hudson.
Grandpa Ed was never short on hugs, firewood, Jolly Ranchers, and his affinity for the Green Bay Packers. He had the best sense of humor and would never concede that anyone could sing the Sunday night football song better than Faith Hill.
Ed and Mary enjoyed kayaking, camping, and visiting grandchildren. Ed believed that life should be lived in the way that Vince Lombardi coached, and instilled in his family his beliefs about the significant parts of life. He taught them to always remember that the three most important things in life are your God, your family, and your love for the Green Bay Packers.
Ed is survived by his wife, Mary; one daughter, Megan (Will) Casey, of Springville; three sons, Justin of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Tyler (Amanda) of Cedar Rapids, and Neil of Hudson; five grandchildren, Michael, Aislynn, Sienna, Eli, and Hannah; and three sisters, Deanna (David) Coates of Camby, Indiana, Norma (Ron) Ireland of Superior, Montana, and Gayle Bader of Spokane, Washington.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Shirley Bucy, and a brother, Stephen Bucy.
