Celebration of life will be 2:00 to 6:00pm Saturday, September 19, 2015 at the Hudson AmVets Post 82 with military rites by Hudson AmVets.

Biography--

Joseph D. Alden, 70, of Hudson, died on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at his home.

Joseph was born on September 27, 1944 in Mason City, son of Orval "Duke" and Kathlyn K. (Bergman) Alden. He attended Rockwell High School. Joseph graduated from North Iowa Area Community College with a degree in Refrigeration. He served in the United States Navy, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1965.

Joseph married Janice A. Grau in 1968 and they had two children Matthew Alden and Michelle Alden Smith. On November 26, 1988 he married Nancy L. Anderson at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Joseph worked for Fuel Oil Service and as an insurance agent for Lutheran Mutual. He owned and operated Alden Heating and Air Conditioning for over 20 years, retiring in 2002. Joseph was a member of Hudson AmVet Post #82 serving in leadership and support positions. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, winemaking, and socializing with friends and family. Joseph was part of the Hudson community for over 40 years.

He is survived by his children Matthew (Michelle) Alden, of Alexandria, VA and Michelle (Chris) Smith, of Alba, TX. Four grandchildren: Mercer, Maguire, Matthias Alden and Tagen Smith.

Three sisters: Peggy Rodriquez of Hastings, NE; Deanna (Mike) Kelley of Raytown, MO; and Angie (Myron) Meinhart of Hudson. Brother-in-law John Pavlik of Phoenix, AZ. Three sister-in-laws: Tracy Anderson of St. Charles, MN; Kim (Dan) O'Brien of Ridgeway; and Shirley (Dean) Hubka of Protivin. Two brother-in-laws: Mark Anderson of Cedar Rapids and Gene (Susie) Anderson of Protivin. Numerous nieces and nephews. Close family friend Dick (Donna) Firgard of Hudson.

Joseph is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy. Sister, Marlys Pavlik. Father, Orval Alden (who was killed in action during WWII) and parents, William (Kathlyn) Gibson.
