CEDAR FALLS - Esther D. Johnson, 92, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, at Western Home Communities Martin Center of natural causes.

She was born July 2, 1914, near Readlyn, daughter of Henry and Anna Herman Schumacher. She married Howard E. Johnson on Sept. 26, 1936. He died Jan. 12, 1994.

Mrs. Johnson worked as a telephone operator, waitress, and co-owned Johnson's Lunch with her husband.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy (William) Blake of Waterloo; a son, Richard (Karen) of Land O#' Lakes, Fla.; four grandchildren, Eric, Barbara, Ashley and Jody; six great-grandchildren, Matthew, Mitchell, Alysse, Emilee, Kyle and Clayton; a sister, Agnes Strumple of West Liberty; an aunt, Emily Schumacher of Readlyn; and two sisters-in-law, Lucille Schumacher of Waverly and Josephine Johnson of Chicago.

Preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Sydney Blake; and a brother, Clarence Schumacher.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Friday at Western Home Communities Chapel, with inurnment at a later date in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Public visitation for an hour before services Friday at the Western Home chapel. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
