WATERLOO - Margaret Crawford Stewart, 88, of Waterloo, formerly of Dunkerton, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

She was born May 30, 1918, in rural La Porte City, daughter of Clarence H. and Jessie Ochs Crawford. She married John R. Stewart on March 20, 1940, in Waterloo. He died March 31, 2004.

Mrs. Stewart was a 1936 graduate of Jesup High School. She and her husband farmed the family's century farm, which was established in 1867, until moving in 1996. She was a member of Barclay Presbyterian Church for 78 years; past Sunday School teacher and former deacon; and past member of Dunkerton School Board and Dunkerton Women's Club.

Survivors include three sons, Jim of Cedar Falls, J.T. of Sandia Park, N.M., and Tim of Iowa City; two daughters, JoAnn (Dale) Torpey of Washington and Suzanne (Eric) Torkelson of West Des Moines; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Lois) Crawford of Jesup and Jack (Grace) Crawford of Chandler, Ariz.; and a sister, Mary (Roger) Sewell of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: infant twin children, John and Margaret; a sister, Joan Annett; and a brother, Dr. D.H. Crawford.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Barclay United Presbyterian Church, with burial in Old Barclay Cemetery, both in rural Black Hawk County. Public visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to American Cancer Society or Parkinson's Research.
