CEDAR FALLS - Shirley J. Van Kamen, 85, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Scarville, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, at Sartori Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 10, 1929, in Kiester, Minn., daughter of Emil and Ruth Olson Hermanson. She married Paul Van Kamen Jr. on Aug. 17, 1947, in Scarville.

Shirley graduated from Scarville High School in 1946 as class valedictorian.

Survived by her husband; a son, John (Jacquelyn) of Denver, Iowa; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild; three brothers, John Hermanson of Scarville, Jerome Hermanson of Lake Mills and Ronald Hermanson of Pullman, Wash.; and a sister, Donna Watkins of West Salem, Wis.

Preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Christine Van Kamen; and a son, David.

Private family services will take place at a later date, with inurnment in Immanuel Cemetery, Scarville. Locke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul United Methodist Church.

She was a good person with a beautiful soul and was a very caring person toward others.
