CEDAR FALLS - Harry J. Boardsen, 88, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital, Waterloo.

He was born March 5, 1926, in Silsand, Norway, son of Ingvard and Jensina Johansen Boardsen. He married Evelyn A. Conner on June 17, 1961, at First Presbyterian Church, Glidden.

Harry served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Yorktown. He graduated from architectural school in Chicago and went to work designing homes in Clinton for over two years. Upon moving to Waterloo he worked designing the Black Hawk County Courthouse until completion of the building project. He continued his education at the University of Northern Iowa, earning his bachelor's degree and master's degree in education. He taught at Bunger Junior High and Waterloo East High School for over 22 years. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, VFW, American Legion and Mended Hearts.

Survived by his wife; a brother-in-law, Chris Boysen of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by five brothers and a sister.

Memorial services: 1 p.m. Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Waterloo, preceded by an hour of visitation, with military honors by U.S. Navy Honors Detail. Inurnment will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery, Glidden. Arrangements by Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Western Home Communities.
