LA PORTE CITY - Leonard J. Ohrt, 87, of Waterloo, formerly of La Porte City, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at Sunnycrest Nursing Center, Dysart.

He was born Nov. 16, 1926, in La Porte City, son of Kuno and Dora Lenius Ohrt. He married Catherine E. Hack on Dec. 24, 1948, in Brandon.

He was a dairy farmer for 55 years in Northeast Iowa and also had worked at Rath Packing Co. He was a member of Baptist Brethren Church in Fredericksburg and the American Legion.

Leonard served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Leonard C. (Rosemary) of Garnavillo and John of Rochester, Minn.; three daughters, Joyce Kono of Cedar Falls and Rosanne (Rolin) Muhs and Roxanne (Doug) Graves, both of Hartley; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Leona Albert of Washburn.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Leo and Chester; a granddaughter; and a son-in-law, Doyle Kono.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, Waterloo, with burial in West View Cemetery, La Porte City. Graveside military rites will be conducted by U.S.S. San Diego American Legion Post 207 and the Normandy V.F.W. Post 3983 Visitation will be for an hour before services Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial fund to be established.
