LA PORTE CITY - Arnold Kowalsky, 97, of La Porte City, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, at Sunnycrest Care Center, Dysart.

He was born Nov. 6, 1916, in Tripoli, son of Carl and Amelia Krause Kowalsky. He married Pearl Butters on June 15, 1939; she died in December 1996.

Arnold served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the aircraft carrier USS Antietam. He and his brother Dalton owned and operated Kowalsky Signs in La Porte City until retiring. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church in La Porte City, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survived by two daughters, Joan (Claire) Foster of La Porte City and Jean (Andy) Marshall of Rogers, Ark.; three sons, Joel and Marc Kowalsky, both of La Porte City, and Jon (Fay) Kowalsky of Fairfield Glade, Tenn.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Viola Halver of Bedford, Texas; and two brothers, Harvey of Houston and Dalton (Marjorie) of La Porte City.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela; a grandson, Troy; two sisters, a stillborn infant and Nora Kowalsky; and a sister-in-law, Ardis Kowalsky.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at American Lutheran Church, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Full military honors will be accorded by USS San Diego American Legion Post 207 and Normandy VFW Post 3982 of La Porte City. La Porte City Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
