WATERLOO - Ralph Newton "Old Man Cummins" Westrick, 84, of Marshalltown, formerly of Waterloo and La Porte City, died Saturday, May 20, 2006, at VA Hospital, Des Moines, of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 29, 1921, in Defiance County, Ohio, son of Raymond Louis and Vanora Kessler Westrick. He married Audrey Quinn on Sept. 7, 1946.

Mr. Westrick attended school in Oxford and continued his education at a diesel mechanic school in California. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific and European theaters. He worked as a diesel mechanic, retiring from Chesley White Freightliner Co., Waterloo, then moved to La Porte City.

Survivors include a son, Michael (Trisha) Quinn of Polk City; a daughter, Judith (Dwight) Slaikeu of La Porte City; six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Martha Evans of Clear Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, where friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until services. Burial with military rites will be in Waterloo Cemetery.

Memorial fund has been established.
