John P. Steils, 59, of Jesup, died at home Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, of an apparent heart attack.

He was born March 16, 1955, in Waterloo, son of Charles Mathew Steils and Rose Marie (Clevenger) Steils. On July 28, 1979, he was united in marriage to Michelle Rebecca Piasecki at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup.

John graduated from Jesup High School with the class of 1973 and attended Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. He was employed as a machinist at John Deere in Waterloo, retiring in 2010.

Survived by his wife of Jesup; a son, Matthew (Jessica) Steils of Waterloo; a daughter, Liza Steils of Jesup; five grandchildren; his parents of Gilbertville; three brothers, Glenn of Gilbertville, Marvin (Laura) of Evansdale and Mark (Laurie) of Fort Worth, Texas; and four sisters, Cindy Balvanz of Waterloo, Patty Steils of Raymond, Theresa (Mike) Quistorff of Waterloo and Ann (Virgil) Eilers of Evansdale.

Preceded in death by his grandparents.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a 3 p.m. Parish Rosary and a 7 p.m. Vigil Service. Visitation also for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
