Mrs. Edith Winn McCartney, wife of Hugh McCartney. 732 Third Avenue West, died at 11:30 p. m.. yesterday at St. Francis Hospital of diabetes after a long illness. She was 56 years old.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Congregational Church, conducted by Dr. J. Richmond Morgan, the pastor. The body will be taken afterward to Sumner, Ia., where a prayer service will be conducted in the home of Mrs. Erwin Heyer, a daughter. Burial will be in the Wilson Grove Cemetery at Sumner. Until the hour of the funeral the body will be at the Petersen Bros.' Mortuary.

Mrs. McCartney was an active i member of First Congregational Church and of its various societies. She also held membership in Mary Melrose chapter, D. A. R.; chapter No. 128, Order of Eastern Star, and ! Waterloo Woman's club.

Edith Orvis was born Dec. 17, 1871, near Sumner, where she grew ; to womanhood. She was married to Michael Edwin Winn, agent for the Chicago Great Western Railroad. He died in this city 20 years ago. The couple came here 23 years ago.

On May 4, 1921, Mrs. Winn was married to Hugh McCartney, who survives.

Other relatives surviving are Mrs. Leo Forhan and Mrs. W. G. Blackley, Chicago, and Mrs. Erwin Heyer. Sumner, daughters; Mrs. Andrew Maitland, Ames, stepdaughter; brothers; J. H. Orvis, Estherville, and Sereho Orvis, Waterloo, Mrs. Alma Pease, Sumner, sister; six grandchildren.
