John Matthew Miltenberger, 45, of Waverly, died Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, of an apparent heart attack.

He was born Nov. 8, 1963, in Waterloo, son of Michael and Audrey Jochum Miltenberger. On Nov. 26, 1999, he married Krystyna Paulsen Taber in Waverly.

Mr. Miltenberger graduated from Central High School, then served with the U.S. Army during Operation Desert Storm. He was employed as a delivery driver for the Waterloo School System.

Survived by his wife; four sons, Adam (Dawn), Daniel, Jacob and David, all of Waterloo; a stepson, Jason (Kam) Taber of Tripoli; two stepdaughters, Emmy Taber of Waverly and Rebecca (Mike) Dighton of Vinton; four grandchildren, Brandon, Brianna, Alexis and Aaron Dighton; three brothers, Joe (Jan) of Astoria, Ore., and Paul and Tim (Diana), both of Reinbeck; and two sisters, Michael (Robert) Burkholder of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Cecilia (Larry) Richards of Phoenix.

Preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Michael; and three sisters, Mary Trumbauer, Patty Miltenberger and Helen Thoms.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, with burial at a later date. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Public visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.
