LA PORTE CITY - Donald J. Boldt, 81, of La Porte City, died Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, of a heart attack.

He was born Aug. 24, 1927, at home in rural Garrison, son of John and Ella Helm Boldt. He married Dorothy Stirm on Feb. 11, 1956, in La Porte City.

Mr. Boldt had been a farmer and worked at the La Porte City Post Office as a clerk for more than 20 years, retiring in 1993. He served in Japan with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a 50-year member of the La Porte City Masonic Lodge 216; former member of the La Porte City Lions Club, La Porte City American Legion, San Diego Post 207 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3983, and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Survived by his wife; a son, Bruce (Lisa) of Fairfax; two daughters, Nancy (Dean) Jensen of Luzerne and Diana Billings of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Michelle and Michael Billings, and Jessica and Ben Boldt; a sister, Nadine Krug of Mount Auburn; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with burial in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at La Porte City Funeral Service and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
