Donald A. Johnson, 73, of 3523 Monticello Ave., passed away Friday, Dec 26, 2003, at Allen Memorial Hospital due to complications from a fall.

Don was born Nov. 15, 1930 in Des Moines, Iowa, son of Karl Alvar and Esther Johansen Johnson. He married Doris Elings in 1952. They had four children, Craig, Rhonda, Paula and Susan. After divorce, he married Wilma Hennick on July 23, 1977.

Don graduated from Des Moines East High School in 1949. He served his country in the Navy during the Korean War. He retired after working at U.S. West for almost 40 years.
Don lived his faith through his selfless service to his community, to his church and especially to his family. He was Dad, Grandpa, and good friend to so many and his untimely death is a profound loss to everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his wife and best friend, Wilma, and by his blended family: Craig Johnson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Rhonda and Mike Sayles of Swansea, Massachusetts, Paula and Steve Hagenson of Finchford, Iowa, Sue Johnson of Ft. Myers, Florida, Denise and Bob Dunn of Waterloo, Mark Hennick of Waterloo, and Mike and Denise Hennick of Des Moines, by his loving sister’s families of Sandra and Don Hancock, and Mary and Max Lieurance, and by twenty grandchildren and eight great grandchildren who adored him.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Einar Johnson and his sister, Eleanor Vandehaar.
