WATERLOO - Joseph Brian “Joey” McCraney Jr., 33, died unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital.

He was born April 22, 1981, in Waterloo, son of Joseph Brian and Cindy K. Snyder McCraney Sr. He married Marcia Jo Monter on Sept. 19, 2009, in Waterloo.

He graduated from Waterloo East High School in 2000. Joey worked as a maintenance mechanic at John Deere and Co. foundry in Waterloo and formerly at Tysons-KPR.

Survived by his wife; a daughter, Kendal Tyler; a son, Keegan; a third child on the way; his parents of Waterloo; a sister, Jenny (Joe) Borseth of Raymond; a brother, Jason (Stephanie) of Urbandale; his paternal grandmother, Joan McCraney of Evansdale; his maternal grandmother, Ida Mae Snyder of Tripoli; his mother and father-in-law, Roberta (Marc) Monter of Waterloo; two brothers-in-law, Nathan (Katie) Monter of Cedar Falls and Cody Monter of Waterloo; a sister-in-law, Heather (Jacob) Hickman of Waterloo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his grandfathers; two cousins, Josh Harp and Scott Snyder; and two aunts, Kevin Brown and Penny Burroughs.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, with inurnment in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today and an hour before services Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Joey earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a youth and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and playing softball with his friends.
