WATERLOO - Mary Kay Kluiter, 75, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2014, at Villages at Legacy Pointe in Waukee.

She was born July 12, 1939, in Waterloo, daughter of Clifford “Skip” and Zella Marie Barkhurst Martin. She married William “Bill” Kluiter on June 10, 1961, in Waterloo.

Mary Kay graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1957, Drake University in 1961 and received her master of arts degree in business education in 1968 from the University of Northern Iowa. She was a teacher for Orange Township High School, Hawkeye Institute of Technology in Waterloo and Hamilton Business College in Des Moines and retired in 2001 from Kaplan University in Urbandale.

Survived by her husband; her children, Andrew Kluiter of Waukee and Amy Kluiter of Grimes; and a grandson, Grant Shivvers.

Preceded in death by her parents; and her aunt, Vivian Winnier.

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at Grimes United Methodist Church, with burial in Sunny Hill Cemetery, also in Grimes. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Grimes United Methodist Church.

Mary Kay was a member of the American Business Women’s Association, PEO, Mother’s Chorus in Waterloo and a member of her church choir, both in Waterloo and Grimes. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family and was a founding member of Grimes United Methodist Church.
