WATERLOO - Lawrence Patrick "Larry" Dowie, 82, of Monticello, formerly of Waterloo, died at home Monday, Sept. 22, 2014.

He was born July 17, 1932, in Des Moines, to Frank and Lillian Traffley Dowie. On April 2, 1986, he married Linda Dinnebier in Waterloo.

He served during the Korean War with the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. Larry worked for a hotel chain for 18 years in Des Moines and for the Anamosa State Penitentiary for 10 years.

Survived by his wife; four sons, Doug of Indianola, Dave of Urbandale, Tim of Des Moines and Jim (Mary) of Pella; a daughter, Karen (Tony) Sage of Ankeny; two stepdaughters, Kim (Dr. Kelly) Schmidt of Waterloo and Kristy (Michael) Macki of Cambridge; two siblings, Denise Brunia of Ames and Fred Dowie of Adel; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by two sons, Mike and Scott; his parents; and three brothers Walter, Frank and Gene.

As per his wishes, he will be cremated. There are no services scheduled.

Memorials may be directed in Larry’s name to Above and Beyond Home Health and Hospice in Monticello.
