CEDAR FALLS - George William Baker, 66, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waxhaw, N.C., died Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital, Waterloo.

He was born Jan. 6, 1948, in Monroe, N.C., son of William and Nellie Privette Baker. He married Julie Ford on May 18, 1990, in Enterprise, Ala.

George served in the U.S. Army for 23 years, including a tour during Operation Desert Shield, retiring in 1991.

Survived by his wife; a son, Scott of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Amy Baker of Cedar Falls; a stepson, Mike (Lydia) Ackerson of Cedar Falls; a grandson, Caeden Ackerson of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Fred (Helen) and Eugene (Dana), both of Waxhaw; and four sisters, Elizabeth “Lib” (Steve) Hackney and Joyce (Bobby) Cox, both of Monroe, Peggy Parker of Waxhaw and Pauline (Tom) McLemore of Mineral Springs, N.C.

Preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Braylon Ackerson; and a brother-in-law, Norman Parker.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday and an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

George's family requests that friends dress casually for both visitation and service.
