CEDAR FALLS - Laurie L. Nathan, 60, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Brainerd, Minn., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 12, at noon at the Cedar Falls Women's Club.

Laurie Lynne Nathan was born on June 5, 1954, to Dale and Ardis Rust Nathan in Amarillo, Texas. She was united in marriage to Robert Howard, the father of her four children, between 1973 and 1983, and Raymond Russell between 1984 and 2012. She loved caring for her Victorian-era home, cultivating her large garden, championing Cedar Falls-related causes, and spoiling her 12 grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Ben (Jeanne) Howard of San Diego, Katherine (Steve) Marr of Colorado Springs, Colo., Nathan (Ruth) Howard of Parkland, Fla., and Christina (Michael) Engen of Madison, Wis.; her mother, Ardis Nathan of Baxter, Minn.; two sisters, Brenda Marquette and Debbie Barnes; a brother, Craig Nathan; and 12 grandchildren, with a 13th due soon.

Laurie was preceded in death by her father.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in honor of Laurie to the Cedar Valley Hospice.
