DUNKERTON - Randall Roy Sickles, 49, of Dunkerton, formerly of Readlyn, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital, Waterloo, from an unexpected illness.

He was born May 8, 1965, in Waterloo, son of Duane and Virginia Sauerbrei Sickles. He married Brenda Bachman on Nov. 11, 1989, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Readlyn.

Randall graduated from Wapsie Valley High School in 1983, attended Ellsworth Community College, and in 1984 entered the U.S. Air Force. During his 20-year career in the Air Force, he was stationed in Sicily, Italy; Offutt AFB, Nebraska; Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota; and RAF Mildenhall, England, retiring in 2004, while stationed at Offult AFB. He moved to Dunkerton and went to work for Schwan’s Home Foods, Cedar Falls. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Bennington and Peter Kress American Legion Post 636 of Dunkerton.

Survived by his wife; a daughter, Anna Sickles (Adam Ortner) of Gilbertville; a son, Jacob of Dunkerton; his mother of Readlyn; four brothers, David of Story City, Rod and Dan, both of Readlyn, and Doug (Marcia) of Cresco; his father- and mother-in-law, Larry and Rosemary Bachman of Fairbank; a brother-in-law, Brad (Kathy) Bachman of Fairbank; two sisters-in-law, Becky (Keith) Thurm of Anamosa and Barbara (Mike) Lorenz of Marion; and his nieces and nephews, Lauren, Nic, Casee, Coral, Jamie (Grant), Taylor, Ashley, Madison, Emily, Abby, Adam, Ben, Krystal, Amanda, Josh, Cody, Daniel, Claire, and Cooper.

Preceded in death by his father; paternal grandparents, Milton and Luella Sickles; and maternal grandparents, Walter and Anna Sauerbrei.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John’s Lutheran Church-Bennington, rural Waterloo, with burial in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Cemetery, Readlyn. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Peter Kress American Legion Post 636 of Dunkerton. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Readlyn.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation.
