Mrs. Samantha E. Brooks, mother of Mrs. J. J. Woolwine, of this city, and Mrs. John Nugent, of Iowa City, and sister of Mrs. Jerusha Higgins and Mrs. M. M. Schellenger, both of this city, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Nugent, in Iowa City, last Saturday morning. The remains were brought here at 10:40 this morning, accompanied by relatives.

Deceased was born in Ohio, Feb. 18*, 1821, making her about 74 years old at the time of her death. In 1836 she moved to Illinois, where she was married to Henry E. Brooks, who died in Kansas a few months ago. They moved to Iowa in 1854, living on what is now known as the Blowers farm in East Waterloo township.

She leaves four children—two sons and two daughters; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two sisters to mourn her loss. The two sons are living in Kansas.

Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock tomorrow forenoon from the residence of J. J. Woolwine, No. 1102 Washington Street, conducted by Rev. DeWitt Clinton, of Waverly.
