Marie Margaret Kaufman, 99, of Fairbank, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Mercy Living Plus, Oelwein, of natural causes.

She was born Oct. 2, 1910, in Gilbertville to Matthias and Catherine Delagardelle Steils. She married Fred Kaufman on Jan. 16, 1929, at Immaculate Conception Church, Gilbertville.

Mrs. Kaufman was a housewife and also worked at St. Frances Hospital and Covenant Hospital for 16 years.

Survived by four sons, Jim (Glenda) and Jerry (Wanda), both of Fairbank, Jack (Nancy) of Cedar Rapids and Tim (Shar) of Howells, Neb.; three daughters, Connie Broell and Mary Kaufman, both of Waterloo, and Sue Thompson of Eagan, Minn.; 27 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, Leo Steils, Henry Steils, Adolph Steils and Matthew Steils; two sisters, Florence Love and Betty Happel; a son, Wallace Kaufman; two daughters-in-law; a son-in-law; a grandson; two great-granddaughters; a great-great-granddaughter; and a grandson-in-law.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church, Fairbank, with burial in Eagle Center. Public visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Woods Funeral Home, Fairbank, with a 4 p.m. rosary service and 6:30 p.m. Scripture service.
