Helen P. Averill, 80, of 3335 Monticello Ave., Waterloo, died Monday, December 23, 2002 at Allen Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 4, 1922 in Wayland, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Jessie (Siverly) Martin. She grew up in Wayland, graduated from high school, received her teaching degree form Iowa State Teachers College, and taught school in Finchford.

Helen married Eugene F. Averill May 28, 1944 in Waterloo at Bethel Presbyterian Church. She was a devoted wife and a nurturing mother and grandmother. Helen had a great sense of humor and enjoyed their cabin on the Turkey River, being outdoors, walking and fishing. She enjoyed golf, bridge, bowling, crossword puzzles, and was a musician playing the trumpet, piano, ukulele and singing.

Survived by her son Marty and his wife Laura Averill of Waterloo; daughter Jan and her husband Gary Rosauer of Cedar Falls; grandchildren Casey and Emily Averill; sister Marge Bork of South Dakota; and brother Ken and his wife Joyce Martin of Wyoming.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eugene on February 3, 2001, and brother Gaylord Martin.
