WATERLOO - Eunice Mae Cordes, 89, of Waterloo, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, at ManorCare Health Services of natural causes.

She was born May 27, 1917, in Libertyville, daughter of Lloyd M. and Sarah Eugenia Dixon Gilchrist. She married Dr. Theodore Carl Cordes Jr. on Nov. 8, 1942, in Iowa City. He died Aug. 18, 1987.

Mrs. Cordes graduated from Lockridge High School, then attended Parsons College and studied business. She assisted her husband in his dental practice until his retirement. She also was a pianist at Von Maur from 1984 to 2000 and for the Waterloo Rotary Club from 1985 to 2001. She was past president and 50-year member of PEO Chapter JP; was past president, 50-year member and one of the original founders of the B Natural Music Club; was past president and founder of TTT Chapter BH; was a member of Ladies Musical Improvement Club and of First Congregational Church; and was a past Elklett.

Survivors include a daughter, Jeanne (John) Lueders of Waterloo; a son, Kim (Pam) of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Mason (Sara) Walton of Cedar Rapids, Matthew (Marina) and Andrew Lueders, both of Charlotte, N.C., and Brad and Dan Cordes, both of Waterloo; and four great-grandchildren, Andrew and Stephanie Walton, Alexis Lueders and Gage Stichman.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Pearl N. and David Gilchrist.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
