EVANSDALE - Clement William Ungs, 82, formerly of Evansdale, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center, Waterloo, of natural causes.

He was born Sept. 25, 1923, in North Washington, son of Ed and Frances Roethler Ungs. On Feb. 12, 1947, he married Iola Canty in New Hampton. She died Feb. 27, 1989.

Mr. Ungs graduated from school in North Washington, then served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He and his wife operated a restaurant in Fredericksburg and operated a turkey farm in Alta Vista. In 1954 they moved to Evansdale and he began employment with Rath Packing Co., Waterloo, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Evansdale AMVETS.

Survivors include two sons, Clem Jr. (Fonda) of Dike and Michael (Laura) of Independence; three daughters, Terry Besser of Ames, Eloise "Elly" Dawson of Evansdale and Patty (Bruce) Goldsberry of Waterloo; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dennis of Waterloo and Bob of Readlyn; and a sister, Sally Carney of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by a brother, Don; and a sister, Peg.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, with burial later. Military rites will be conducted by Evansdale AMVETS. Public visitation 3 to 6 p.m. today at the chapel.

Memorials may be established.

In free moments Clement enjoyed fishing, golfing and sporting events.
