Lloyd. E. Knode, 85, of Waterloo, Iowa died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at Rosewood Estates in Waterloo.

He was born July 18, 1918 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Clifford L. and Winefred Mae (Hedgecock) Knode. Lloyd married Katherine Frohardt June 22, 1941 in Lancaster, Missouri. She died February 3, 2004.

Lloyd graduated from Waterloo's West High School in 1937. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and also in the US Navy during the Korean War. Lloyd and Kay returned to Waterloo with two daughters, Sharree and Joyce who were born in Texas in 1943 and 1945. Paula was born in 1947 while the family lived in Evansdale. The family lived in Waterloo until 1964 when he and Kay moved to Des Moines. During Lloyd's life in Waterloo, he worked for the Railway Express and managed the Sky View Drive-In Theater. While in Des Moines, he managed the SE14th Drive-In Theater, moving to Corydon, IA in 1969 where they owned the 2 and 65 Drive-In Theater, then moving in 1972 to Bethany, MO where they owned the Frontier Drive -In Theater. Relocating in 1974 to Centerville, IA they owned the Town and Country Drive-In Theater. In 1994 they moved back to Waterloo, Iowa and spent their winters in the south. He was a member of AmVets, Masonic Lodge, Shrine, and Black Hawk County Sheriff's Reserve. Lloyd's passion was traveling, especially to Mexico and visiting family throughout the country.

Survived by three daughters: Sharree Trout and her husband Marlyn of Ash Grove, MO; Joyce Warren and her husband Ron of Waterloo; Paula Mills and her husband Don of Adel, Iowa; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren: Pamela Stufflebeem of Des Moines and her son Dennis; Darla Trout of Merrit Island, FL; Jeffrey (Maria) Mills of Des Moines and their children Drae and Jacqueline; Lynn (Dane) Roaseau of Ash Grove, MO and their daughters Elizabeth and Kymberly; Lisa (Adam) Boege of Reinbeck and their daughter Katelyn.

Lloyd is preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister, Dorothy Bemisdarfer.
