LA PORTE CITY - Frances Arlene Burrows, 97, of La Porte City, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014, at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born Dec. 14, 1916, on the family farm in Benton County, daughter of Ralph and Dorothy Hains Struve. She married Glenn J. Burrows on Aug. 7, 1935, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua; he died June 25, 2010.

Frances was a 1934 graduate of Mount Auburn High School, Mount Auburn. She and her husband farmed for many years near Brandon, retiring in 1986. She was president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Soil and Water Conservation of eight states, was Secretary of Conservation, and elected Women of the Year over the eight states in 1986.

Survived by two daughters, Sharon Burrows of Stone City and Marilyn Spores of Tallahassee, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Kerry (Dan) Solomon of Cedar Rapids and Jamison Spores of Urbandale.

Preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Glenda Burrows; two sisters, Lois Miller and Donna Becker; and a brother, Roger Struve Sr.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. La Porte City Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements

Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice.

Frances and Glenn were dedicated conservation farmers.
