[Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, Tuesday, July 7, 2008]

[CEDAR FALLS] - Hugh Fulton Beall was born at Roca, Neb., on Feb. 24, 1919, the sixth child of Hugh Josiah and Elma Crawford Beall, and passed away July 5, 2008, at home of natural causes.

He was educated in Roca and later at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Hugh and Angeline Mulder were married Dec. 25, 1940. They had three children: Larry Hugh Beall, Constance Angela Beall and Judith Susan Beall Brown. Hugh farmed, raised dairy cattle, worked for the Atomic Energy Commission in Los Alamos, N.M., and as a construction superintendent for Beall Construction Co., Lincoln, and Central Contracting Corp., Kearney, Neb. Angeline pre-deceased him, and Hugh later married Melissa L. Christensen in Lincoln on March 13, 1971.

Survivors include his wife, Melissa of Cedar Falls; children, Larry (Sharon) of Waverly, Neb., Connie of Salem, Ore., and Judy (Jerome) of Iowa City; eight grandchildren, Gary, Eric and Clay Beall, Sheryl Martin, Jonah Kushner, Ann McQueen, Joan Robinson-Valley and Elizabeth Childers; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Florence Bealle of Fayetteville, Ark.; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Angeline; sisters, Vera, Oma and Elizabeth Beall; and brothers, John and Robert.

Inurnment will be in Nebraska. A celebration of life will be held in Nebraska in the very near future and another celebration of his life will be held in Cedar Falls later in the summer. Memorials may be directed to the Aplastic Anemia and Myelodysplastic Syndrome Research Foundation, the March of Dimes or the Northeast Iowa Food Bank.

Hugh was an excellent communicator who loved life and people. Hugh and Melissa traveled extensively, attending hundreds of communication organization conventions all over the world. The onset of polio in 1952 only briefly slowed him down, and he returned to work within 10 days of being released from the hospital. Hugh's friendly smile and love of people made him a favorite of others. He loved gardening, travel and visiting with others.

Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, assisted the family with arrangements.
