John B. Bishop Jr., 82, of Dubuque, and formerly of Waterloo, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque.

Funeral mass will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at Church of the Resurrection, 4300 Asbury, Dubuque, where friends may greet the family from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. The Rev. Jerry Kopacek will officiate. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo. Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Rd., Dubuque, is entrusted with arrangements.

John was born April 21, 1932, in Klammath Falls, Ore., the son of John B. Bishop Sr. and Alice Suttner Bishop. He married Jean Leverman Sept. 17, 1955, in Portland, Ore. She preceded him in death on July 2, 2009. He served in the U.S. Army. John had attended Portland University and received his B.S. in business. He worked with Weyerhaeuser Lumber Co. for 40 years, receiving many sales awards and recognition. Following his retirement, he worked for Cascade Lumber for 10 years. John was a member of the Elks Club and Rotary.

John is survived by his daughter, Susan Hafkemeyer and her husband John of Dubuque, daughter Karen Brough and her husband Gregg of Mansfield, Texas; and four grandchildren, Nicholas M. Czeshinski, Lauren D. Czeshinski, Alexander H. Brough, and Regina C. Brough.

John is preceded in death by his wife, Jean L. Bishop; his parents, John and Alice Bishop; his sister, Margaret Bishop O'Connor; and his brother, Robert Bishop.

Memorials may be made to St. Edward's Catholic Schools.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Medical Center, Eagle Point Place, and all who cared for John during his final years.
