WATERLOO - Steven J. Lukes, 60, of Waterloo, died Saturday, July 6, 2008, at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn., of multiple myeloma.

He was born June 28, 1948, in Cresco, son of Joseph G. and Nora Zahasky Lukes. He married Sharon Roberts on Feb. 17, 1968, in Protivin.

Mr. Lukes graduated from Iowa State University, Ames, with a degree In veterinary medicine. He practiced in New Hampton for 18 years before becoming a radiologic technologist, working at Covenant Medical Center for 14 years. He was a member and Eucharistic minister at St. Edward Catholic Church and also was a member of the North East District of Iowa Society for Radiologic Technologists.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, Curt (Jennifer) of North Liberty and Tom of Waterloo; a daughter, Jennifer (Steve) Sandifar of Selma, Ind.; four grandchildren, Aliayah and Lexie Lukes and Luke and Roman Sandifar; his mother of Cedar Falls; and a sister, Judy (Jean) Cogdall of Sterling, Ill.

Preceded in death by his father in March 2008.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with inurnment in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, where there will be a 7 p.m. rosary. His body was cremated.

Memorials may be directed to the Mayo Clinic Cancer Research, Rochester.
