WATERLOO - Charles "Norman" Mitchell, 97, of Waterloo, formerly of Geneseo, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at Friendship Village.

He was born Nov. 5, 1916, in rural Buckingham, son of Claude and Sara Burr Mitchell. On Nov. 25, 1937, he married Doris Speer at Geneseo United Methodist Church.

Norman graduated from Geneseo High School in 1934 and had farmed for many years. He was a member of Geneseo United Methodist Church.

Survived by his wife; three sons, Craig (Diane) of Des Moines, Brent (Sheryl) of Cape Coral, Fla., and Ken (Pamela) of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Brad (Ellen) Mitchell, Kimm (Mike) Gilmore, Jonathon (Kim) Mitchell, Jason (Candy) Mitchell, Jill (Kurt) Katuin and Kate (John Leadley) Mitchell; 13 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Herald (Elsie) and Philip.

Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, Frank and Roland; and two sisters, Fanny and Edith Mitchell.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Geneseo United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service.

Memorials may be directed to the church.

Norman enjoyed woodworking and traveling all over Iowa with Doris.
