WATERLOO - Phyllis Elaine Hinze, 88, of Waterloo, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, after a brief illness.

She was born March 7, 1926, in Denison, daughter of John and Emma Krueger Schlimmer. She married Jerome "JJ" Hinze on May 14, 1946, in Waterloo; he died March 14, 2001.

Phyllis graduated from Waterloo West High School. She was a full-time mother and homemaker.

Survived by three daughters, Janet Hinze (Norm Berzon) of Emeryville, Calif., Barbara (Greg) Habben of Eau Claire, Wis., and Patricia Hinze (Kaveh Djahan) of El Cerrito, Calif.; three sons, David (Marsha) of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Jeffrey and Russell, both of Waterloo; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Brandi) Calmer, Kelley (Paul) Hinze-Francis, Brian (Holly) Hinze, Nicholas and Nathan Habben, and Katherine and Alexandra Djahan; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by four brothers, Arlo, Raynor, Ross and Adrian "Al;" and two sisters, Lola Leggett and Lorraine.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at St. Edward Catholic Church, preceded by an hour of visitation with family present, and with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Phyllis was a loving wife and a much loved mother and grandmother. She loved cooking, golf, bowling, the St. Louis Cardinals, traveling and spending time with her family.
