Gene Edward Gorby Sr., 69, of 11 Sans Sousi Dr. died Saturday June 28, 2003 at Allen Memorial Hospital following complications of surgery.

Gene was born February 18, 1934 in Waterloo, Iowa the son of Elmer and Lucille (Roberts) Gorby.

Gene served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He married Kathleen Franzen June 1, 1959. He worked at House of Honda and for John Deere as a tool and die maker and then Supervisor from January 27, 1955 until his retirement May 31, 1985. After retirement Gene volunteered delivering meals to the elderly and also worked for Royal Flush Shuttle Service.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and boating, he also enjoyed NASCAR - (he was a big Earnhardt fan). In his younger days he use to work on and race cars at Tunis Speedway. He was loving and kind to his wife, children and their spouses, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was always supportive to his children and grandchildren and was always available to give guidance when needed. He was a faithful member of Blessed Sacrament Church.

Survived by his wife Kathleen; 5 daughters: Charlotte (Tom) Jeys of Waterloo, Diane (Charles) Gorby-Hoyle of Waterloo, Tamara (Luther) Hougen of Denver, Kimberly (Tad) Rindels of Shell Rock, and Nichole Gorby of Wterloo; a son Gene Jr and special friend Michelle of Allison; 19 Grandchildren: Ryan Cory, and Sara Jeys, Tim and Dennis Blanchard, Kayla and Jeremy Belz, Jami and Cody Hougen, Chelsea, Kaylee Kathleen, and Cole Becker, Kailey Jo and Calvin Rindels, Jo and Brittany Gorby, Shaylon Lahr, Jorden and Jarett Lewis; 3 Great Grandchildren: Nathan Jeys, Jersey Jeys, and Desirae Blanchard. Gene is also survived by a sister JoAnn Carlson of Waterloo and a Step-brother Dale Newton of California.

He is preceded in death by his parents and step father Harry Newton.
