WATERLOO - Emery H. Schnack, 93, of 710 Denver St., died Monday, April 23, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services of natural causes.

He was born Jan. 31, 1914, in Gladbrook, son of Herman and Emma Budolfsen. Following the death of his mother when he was a year old, he was adopted by his aunt and uncle, Lena and Albert Schnack. He married Marion Hile Jarosh in 1947 in Humbolt. She died Jan. 27, 1992.

He graduated from Charles City High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines.

Mr. Schnack and his wife farmed in Tama County prior to coming to Waterloo in 1950. He then worked as a route salesman for Newkirk Sales for 28 years, retiring in 1978. He was a 60-year member of St. John's Catholic Church.

Survived by two sons, Don (Linda) Schnack of Bend, Ore., and Bob (Darlene) Jarosh of Waterloo; two daughters, Jana (Jerry) Foster of Kingston, Wash., and Janan Burger of Waterloo; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; his adoptive parents; two sisters; a brother; a son-in-law, Ken Burger; and two grandchildren, Steve Schnack and Linda (Izzy) Scovill.

Private family services will be Saturday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home.
