WATERLOO - Carl O. Borwig, 96, of Waterloo, died at home Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, of natural causes.

He was born April 15, 1918, in Waterloo, son of Gustava and Nancy Kellerlain Borwig. He married Genevieve Ellsworth on June 16, 1947, in Mason City.

Carl served in the U.S. Navy SEABEES, and had owned and operated Borwig Building Service for over 50 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Sunday School teacher, former chairman trustee of Calvary United Methodist Church Board, and member of Roosevelt PTA. He was a member of Waterloo Lodge 105 AF&AM, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and member of El Kahir Shrine.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Carol (Al) Beatty of Waynesville, Mo., and Jane (Lonnie) Tragord Stein of Tripoli; three sons, Michael of Swisher, Gus of Waterloo and Todd (Deb) of Denver; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Borwig of Swisher; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren

Preceded in death by a great-granddaughter Briana Borwig; a son-in-law, Clete Tragord; three sisters, Arlene Borwig in infancy, Helen Bell and Agnes James; and five brothers, Paul, Clarence, Barney, Herman and Earnest.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, with full military rites by Evansdale AMVETS and Waterloo American Legion. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the church or the family.
