WATERLOO - Joseph "Joe" Katz, 86, of Rosewood Estate, died at home Saturday, May 9, 2009.

He was born July 7, 1922, in Waterloo, son of Eli and Sadie Solomon Katz. He married Darlene Kimball on Dec. 24, 1940, in Waterloo.

Mr. Katz graduated from Waterloo West High School. He was an entrepreneur in Waterloo all of his life, culminating with Henry's Drive-In.

Survived by his wife; a daughter, Pat Thode of Cedar Falls; two grandsons, David (Emily) Thode and Thomas Thode; three great-grandchildren, Erin, Jane and Annie; and a brother, Don of San Diego.

Preceded in death by a brother, Leo.

Memorial services will take place at a later date; his body was cremated. Locke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Amenity Hospice or American Cancer Society.
